The new 19” rack-mount microphone preamplifier VSR 5 was described in the December '09 issue of Professional Audio Magazine as a “Masterpiece of Engineering”.
VSR 5: Reference Microphone Preamplifier
The VSR 5 is the first studio microphone preamplifier from SCHOEPS. It is distinguished by its especially low noise, low distortion and comprehensive protection from RF interference. Its circuit is based on the one which Schoeps engineers have used for years as a reference in the development and testing of their microphones, so it seemed only logical to make it available to end users as well.
The functions:
precise gain control from unity to + 60 dB, adjustable in 3 dB steps by means of a rotary knob
wide-range, quick-acting LED level indicators with a range from -48 dB to +9 dB, plus a "Clip" indicator at +20
switchable phantom powering. The VSR 5 recognizes automatically when a condenser microphone is connected; the LED of the P48 switch will glow green. It glows yellow when phantom powering is turned on.
Polarity reversal switch
Mute switch. Muting is activated automatically during turn-on or turn-off of the unit or of phantom powering.
switchable second-order low cut filter for suppression of pop or wind noise as well as infrasonic disturbances. Its turnover frequency can be set to 40 / 80 / 120 Hz to minimize the effect on desired signals.
The components:
an amplifier module with especially low noise and distortion
high-quality gain control knobs with fine detents
high-quality RF filters which protect the input and output circuits without adverse influence on the frequency response or sound quality
a robust, RF-proof stainless steel housing for 19" rack mounting
gold-plated contacts on the XLR sockets and rotary controls, for long-life, noise-free operation.
